Norman Elzmore Long

Norman Elzmore Long
(October 29, 1920 - March 28, 2008)

Absent from the body, present with the Lord. Norman Elzmore Long came face to face with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 28, 2008 and joined those he loved dearly, his parents, Gus Albert Long and Ettie Price Long; his sister, Lela Long Bennett; his brother, J.W. Long and a dearly loved son, W.A. Long.
Born on October 29, 1920 at Hazel Grove, Arkansas, he spent his early years farming with his family in Cord, Arkansas and attended school at Oak Ridge and then Newark High School.
He entered into World War II with the US Army in August 1942. He trained at the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C. and served with the 67th Evacuation Hospital for 39 months as a surgical technician. His tour of duty included Ardennes, Germany, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France. He was awarded 5 bronze stars for these campaigns and the medal of good conduct.
He returned home in November 1945 where he met and married the love of his life of almost 62 years, Geneva Shaw Long. They embarked on a wonderful life together, settling in Memphis, Tennessee where they raised 3 children, the late W.A. Long and his wife Kay Long of Germantown, TN, Norman Mark Long and his wife, Jill Long of Olive Branch, MS and Cathy Long Holt and her husband, Todd of Columbia, TN.
Norman and Geneva founded Dixie Linoleum and Carpet in the 50’s. In 1974 he retired and they returned back home to Cord where they attended Cord Baptist Church and he served as a deacon, and loved greeting everyone at the door conveying his love of the Lord with a friendly smile and a bulletin.
He enjoyed playing Skip-bo with friends and family, visiting with neighbors at the local gas station as he would fill up their car or help fix a flat. He was always ready to go fishing or to eat a mess of fish and he loved gardening.
Most of all he loved staying busy and having a job to get done. Another joy was doting on his grandchildren. He leaves his legacy to Jason Long and his wife, Faith Long of Lakeland, TN, Wendy Young and her husband, Brad Young of Cordova, TN, Jonathan Ellis Long and Jacob Norman Long both of Olive Branch, MS, Abigail Grace Holt and Anna Kate Holt both of Columbia, TN and one great-granddaughter, Macie Jewel Long.
There is a huge hole left in our hearts because he was so special to all of us. We will miss his wisdom, twinkling eyes and sharp wit, but we know we will see him again in Heaven.
Services are Sunday, March 30, 2:00 p.m., at the Cord Baptist Church with Bro. Jeff Childers and Bro. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Grove Cemetery in Charlotte under the direction of Willis Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Rob Reschke, K. Michael Osborne, Chuck Osborne, Randy Paul, Barry Lillard and Darren Lillard.
Honorary pallbearers are Hershell Hardin, Bobby Morrison, Leonard Linsey, I.J. Shaw, Roy Lee Shaw, Harry Wright, Neil Troy Price, Charles Osborne, Raoul Spragg, George Catton, Hayden McClure and Eugene Gardner.
Visitation is Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m.

Gone to be with Jesus!

This morning around 4:00 a.m., Jason's grandfather (his dad's father) went to be with the Lord! Please keep us in our your thoughts and prayers as we travel to Arkansas tomorrow morning for the burial services.  Your prayers are greatly appreciated!

New Outfits!

Macie's grandmother, Kay Kay, went on a trip about two weeks ago with some friends from church and of course she came back with LOTS of goodies for Macie! She apparently hit the "half-price jackpot" in a Belk store and came home with some SUPER CUTE clothes for Macie. And of course, since I am the mommy poperotzy, I had to snap a few shots of her today in just ONE of the MANY outfits her Kay Kay got for her! Thank you Kay Kay, we are extremely GREATFUL!

He is Risen!

I hope everyone had a great Easter holiday. Our family had a great day this year celebrating our Risen Saviour! We attended the Easter celebration at our church, Highpoint, and then had lunch at our house with the family. My parents (aka Nonnie and Poppie), Jason's mom (aka Kay Kay), Jason's sister and brother in law, Wendy and Brad (Uncle B), my brother Ryne, and Brad's mom, Linda all came over! It was so much fun cooking and hosting lunch for everyone! Macie had a great Easter as well! She was so excited about her Easter basket, but could have cared less about the Easter egg hunting (maybe next year)! She looked so cute in her new Easter dress! Overall, it was a wonderful day remembering the ONE who gave His life for us! Amen!

"He is not here; he has RISEN, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."
Matthew 28:6

"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Mark 10:45

Special Kids Bunny Run 5K

Saturday was such a fun day! We were able to get together with a ton of church friends and family and participate in the Special Kids Bunny Run 5K at Audubon Park to support Team Cooper. Our very close friends, Andy and Amanda Savage, have a son Cooper Savage, who was born a little over a year ago with Down Syndrome. Special Kids & Families is a family-centered Early Intervention Program dedicated to helping children and families reach their full potential. It was such an awesome experience to see our church staff and family come to together to support the Savages! To read more about Special Kids & Families click here.

Praise the LORD!!!!

Most of you probably don't know, but when we moved to our new house in Lakeland last August, we had still not sold our old home on Chimneyrock. It is the heart of Cordova where there literally are hundreds of other homes for sale! It has been on the market since March of last year with very few showings. We have been praying continually that the Lord would bring someone to buy our home and several weeks ago, He answered our prayers! We sold our old house!!!! We actually had 2 offers in one day!! The Lord is so good! We are set to close THIS Friday. Please keep us in your prayers that everything goes through with the closing. This is truly an answer to prayer!

Say "Cheese"!

Like any other mother I try to capture all the cute moments in my baby's life by camera. I never knew just how difficult it was to get a baby to smile or better yet just "look" at the camera, so I could capture that one special photo! So we have been practicing! I will get the camera out while she is playing and I will attempt to catch a sweet photo while telling Macie to "Say Cheese"...well is she definitely catching on!!! Now every time she even SEES the camera she starts saying "eeeeese....essssse"...her sweet version of "Cheese"....It is too cute for words! Here are a few shots of us playing around with the camera yesterday while she repeatedly was saying "eeeeeese"!

"The Skinny"

As most of you know, I am trying desperately to shed a few of these "unwanted" pounds as summer is quickly approaching! It has NOT been easy to say the least! Sweets are the HARDEST thing for me to say "NO" to......what girl doesn't love her sweets?!! I am one of those people that feels her dinner is NOT COMPLETE without dessert! These are just a few of the divine treats I have found that are EXCELLENT for a girl in need of some "weightloss sweetness" and they are very low in calories!

Let It Snow...Let It Snow.....Let Is Snow

After a long afternoon of Winter Weather Advisories and Macie beating on every window and door wanting to go outside and experience this "weird white stuff" falling from the sky, we decided to take her out to enjoy the beautiful snow! She LOVED it and cried terribly when we came back inside! It was family memory not to forget!

A Night Out With The Hubby!

Since these nights don't come as often anymore, I thought this one was worthy of blogging about! Last Friday night Jason and I had a LONG overdue date night! Anyone who knows my husband knows he is a VERY sweet man so it wasn't much of a surprise when he came home from work with flowers for me! Too Sweet! It was a perfect way to start our evening! Macie stayed the night with her Nonnie and Poppie (aka...my parents) and of course was treated like the royal princess on her thrown. French Fries for dinner and ice cream to top it off! I know she wishes we would go out more:) For dinner we went to Jason's Deli (a good choice for a woman on weight watchers~they have an AWESOME salad bar)....then we did a little shopping at Saddle Creek Mall. It is amazing how much more stuff you can look at when you don't have your 15 month old with you! We were on our way downtown, so we decided to try this place called Cheesecake Corner that is also downtown that was recommended by a friend....It was INCREDIBLE! They had TONS of cheesecakes to choose from and it was such a quaint little place....very romantic....with the main lighting being candle light! It was perfect! Jason an I enjoyed a slice of Cookies and Creme cheesecake and some sweet conversation! After that we were off to our main event of the evening~the Rascal Flatts concert! It was so much fun! About a month ago, Jason has surprised me with tickets....of course knowing my love for Rascal Flatts. Again.... the sweetest man EVER! This would make our second Rascal Flatts concert we have been to. The first was in Kentucky when we took a road trip for our 2nd anniversary! Kelly Pickler opened the show "with her red high heels"! The concert was excellent for both Jason and I, except our views of excellent are slightly different. He is there to check out the sound, the lights, the staging, the set-up ect...and of course I am there for the music:) And of course they sang my favorite song "Bless The Broken Road"....I love this song so much because it perfectly describes mine and Jason's relationship! I have the MOST AMAZING husband there is, it just took few "broken roads" to lead me straight to him:) Overall, we had a INCREDIBLE night! I can't wait for our next date night!
